Badlad and I went for a walk up East Kingsdale recently - it was bitterly cold, however gave me an idea for a quick competition to kick 2026 off!

To be in with a chance of winning 4 DMM Phantom HMS karabiners, post your best photos on the subject of 'The current cold weather' on this thread.

Bonus points given for: Caving themed (this is UKC afterall!) and a brief explanation, though I get some photos won't need that.

5 photos per person.

Closing date - 10pm, Wednesday 14th January (extended from Sunday)

Shortlist to be chosen by me then it's over to random.org.

Good luck - and thank you to everyone who supports my competitions - means a lot (y)

Another day another walk. This time Wernside on an evening colder day. The forecast -15°c (with wind chill). What you would call slightly nippy.

The path up (and down) was 'interesting' (if quite pretty).

A peat outcrop had formed icicles on.

On the way back down via the tarns (over the frozen solid bog) we found them frozen over.

Despite the lovely sunshine it was a day to have lunch in the bothy bag although the tube to the water bladder did completely freeze. Should probably bring it inside the shelter next time.

Thanks - we had a great trip despite having less than the ideal number of SRT kits, and your lid opening efforts are much appreciated!

Not caving related, other than the usual local rumour of a secret tunnel (not true), but it is current and it is cold.
The church at Church Lawton this morning, looking all picturesque.

And a boat frozen in and not going anywhere today.

Is that a phone mast behind you or something strapped to your back?
