Yorkshire air crashes

Following on from the Dalesman article, whilst not as well known as in the Peak District, Whernside seems to have collected a few, and most recent was Ingleborough in 2011 (also covers North Yorks moors - mostly Sutton Bank gliding club, with latest being a light plane in 2022 - & back to balloons in late 1700s):

That's a really interesting list. I've possibly walked past quite a few of those sites. I was up on Arant Haw again (first climbed it in 1974) just a few weeks ago and never knew something had crashed on there.

I’ve not looked through the link yet but a Canadian crew crashed on Kitley hill Arkengarthdale (close to the Faggergill mines).

One of them made it down to the farm and knocked on my great grandparents door as my granny remembered going with her dad with the horse and a bale sledge to collect the injured and dead and bring them down to the farm in the middle of the night, and that the horse wouldn’t go anywhere near it

There was a few bits laid around still in the 80’s but it all sank into the peat.
Edit…
