YWT proposes tree planting in Park Gill

Park Gill is the stream you walk above to reach Dow Cave

A new temperate rainforest in the Yorkshire Dales could prove to be a "vital oasis" for wildlife, people behind the scheme said.
Trees would be planted on a 16-hectare (40 acre) site at Park Gill near Kettlewell, to encourage the growth of mosses and create a carpet of ferns and flowers, the Yorkshire Wildlife Trust (YWT) said.

This sounds great! Maybe not so much around Dow, but in other places it could eventually help stabilise cave entrances and reduce water surges in rain. That’s very long term and location dependent though.
I'm all for more rainforest. I do wonder though if the good folks of Kettlewell will appreciate orang utans stealing undies off their clothes lines?
Temperate rainforest, not tropical rainforest 😜 There are many examples of it on the west coast of the UK and Ireland — see here for some explanations. Sadly there’s a lot less of it than there was before we chopped all the trees down for charcoal and other fuelling.
