Hearty congratulations!

It's also the 40th anniversary of that lid you engineered on the entrance to Pikedaw Calamine Caverns, still in first class condition!

Just in case anyone is eager, the accommodation e-mail in the poster isn't quite correct. It should say @yssuk.com

What an absolutely fantastic weekend.. Celebrating 50 years of one of the best caving clubs in Britain. Superb company of generations of loyal present and past members, eventhe presentation of  a drama up on stage as part of this momentous occasion... Quite  a few of us went on to continue the festivities at the Helwith Bridge Hotel and the YSS hostel, where "fun" continued to the late early hours......  These celebrations coincide with the completion of the first class  SRT training facility... Not just a few ropes fastened to an old oak beam but real state of the art arena....a first class facility..... Well done YSS and their leadership team..... A club one is well proud to be associated with.....

It certainly was a good weekend, great to meet some of the original members I had never met before.

You've missed out a knot mid rope on a long pitch, a big umbrella loop and a 3 meter swing between ropes  ;D

Looks pretty good though  :clap2:

They're on the side behind the camera ... no, seriously, they are*!

Floor to ceiling height is 6.75m.

*well, the swing is more like 2m if I'm being honest.

No the longest pitch I found out on Saturday was 60 meters! (Think hidden earth prussic race, only twice the length).
Anything I say is represents my own opinion and not that of a any club/organisation that I am a member of (unless its good of course)

Dow Cave flood
« Reply #18 on: December 02, 2014, 06:56:05 pm »
On 3-10-71 John Cordingley and I (aged 13 and 14) went to Dow Cave. After going to Hobson's Choice choke, but no further, we were on the way out when we bumped into two YSS members who invited us to join them on a trip to the Roof Gardens. We rapidly accepted and followed them to the end of the cave, an excellent trip. On the way out we noticed that the water at the bottom of the rift climb was rather browner and more energetic than previously. It was soon pretty obvious that the cave was in something of a flood. When I arrived, last, back at Hobson's Choice there appeared no way out until I saw lights shining upwards through a whirlpool. Getting out was exiting but not actually difficult or dangerous. Quite an experience at 13! Do any YSS members remember this?
