Last time I came through there on the way out (1960s, solo) I was relying only on sparks from the igniter on a failed carbide lamp for illumination.

.

Blimey, that beats Huge and I ended up doing a large part of the Upper Oxbow Series in OFD2 on a single failing maglite.  :-[

The carbide failed on the way down Main Passage to photographs selenite needle and examine the varves at the Cliffs of Dover.https://www.flickr.com/photos/11409438@N06/4906786237/ Of course I had backup - a Nife cell. Somewhere down Main Stream Passage the main bulb was barely illuminating the walls, switching to pilot bulb the last faint yellow glow faded as I got back near the junction with Main Passage. Exiting was surprisingly easy as wet boot prints from four or five hours earlier indicated the route. I did not need to use the three remaining flash bulbs or the three wind-proof matches and striker inside my helmet. There was another party deep in the cave so my main worry was potential embarrassment at being found sitting in the dark near the entrance.

.

Carlyle Spedding would of been proud of you.  :)

Ahhh, the good old days. Who needs a zillion-megawatt LED when you can cave on a carbide-striker spark?

I suppose if the rumours are true, it could technically be part of Daren now...

So many options, but summertime area maybe. so Selenite Needle Passage is an option.

Spot on, it was after a trip to the Inner Circle and I promise I was happier than I looked.

Kinda looks like the 3rd lake in DyO though I've never seen a boat on that lake and I'm not sure it is even wide enough in the middle
