?A Visitor?s Guide to Underground Britain? by Richard Fells (1993)

Originally printed in 1989, this weighty hardback seeks to offer an insight into the underworld delights found around the country.  Caves, mines and tunnels are all covered with a small number of photographs to aid the descriptions.

A very small section of ?useful addresses? (six in all) can be found towards the back of the book which is sadly lacking and now outdated.

An excellent read for the armchair caver or, indeed, the aspiring caver who intends to take the first step away from their sanctuary. For the avid caver, this represents little more than an opportunity to fill a space on a shelf or impress a friend who has not yet been persuaded to adventure underground.

A tome of vanity that is, however, quite pretty.

:)

We have a copy if this in the British Caving Library - though I think it's the earlier edition we have.  It is a good read as an introduction to caves for the uninitiated and still worth reading even if you are an experienced caver.

Pity that so many addresses went out of date so quickly - always a problem with any book which attempts to provide this sort of information.  It's all online now - check out NewToCaving.com - much more efficient!

Someone gave me a copy of this book a few years ago, funnily enough. It's not bad, considering the target audience must have been the general public.
