Topo Droid, Help with renumbering shots
« on: September 12, 2018, 02:19:22 pm »

Following 2 days of surveying  nightmares, I resorted to shooting with the disto and sorting the data after, I've pulled the data off onto Topodroid. So now I have some learning to do!

My PDA ran out of battery after 5-6hours of surveying on the First day at the head of Electronica pitch in Silvestre, Tresviso and now will not charge! And the Tablet was too damp to be of any use on the second day, when I tried to download the Shots at the base of Electronica. The cave was found 3 days ago by Kelda Jones, Stuart Coxon and Alastair Gott, with Will Burn (SUSS) as company. The cave was further explored with help from Jason Gotel and Bob the Juggler, who did all the rigging on the Second and Third days, and did a sterling job. Will went to other caves to find bugs.

I Digress.

Essentially I need to know how to renumber all the shots after a few shots which have downloaded as splays. I have approximately 184 shots which are all coming out as splays from the first point.

The workflow is as follows (with an #annotated guide):

  • Click on the splay you want to be a shot. This opens the annotated menu which allows you to make it a shot by simply entering (into #1) a "to-station" number.

  • For instances where you want the next splay to also be a shot as above (say if you shot three times), click on the next splay and either repeat the above, or simply press #2 button.

  • Repeat this so all of your shots are correctly assigned with the right station numbers.

  • To renumber the splays at each station, click on the top one of the group (i.e. the first one straight after the shot). Change the "from-station" (#3) and click the group button (#4). This will renumber all the splays from this station.

  • And repeat...

Hope this helps and makes sense.

PS try not to do this again. Surveying with a distoX with no device or notebook is the perfect way to get errors.
The end is where we start....

Had a notebook, should have backed-up the plan for electronica pitch with a notebook to note the shots. I've tied in the pitch at the bottom, and will resurvey the pitch itself at some point. The ongoing lead was surveyed going in, shots were noted down, splays (lrud) were not and the numbers of "bad" shots were noted for deletion.

I guess this is a way that Gardouth could do it, as he'll have to download his data later.

I'll follow your instructions.

@rob
when you save the stations of the first leg enable the button to the left of #4
(the "123..." button) to renumber all the following shots

Marco, I am still in the learning process of using your app. I'm getting better. We did end up sending someone else with more experience of surveying pitches to have a go.

But from my limited experience of using it as a front end user and a back end Therion user. I did like the integration with Therion.

I guess the lessons I've learnt from this is:
-To draw one long accurate line (rather than several) Therion doesn't like "shading" lines.
-To draw anti clockwise, as the lines are picked up in the same way when it's pulled into therion.
-and definitely to survey the pitch slower and more accurately next time, perhaps keeping the Disto and Topodroid together.

To use the Topodroid or Therion mailing lists if I have a problem.
