    Wrist watches for caving

I’m afraid my cheap casios (F-91W) break on the watch face and the strap. I normally have it under a Warmbac neoprene cuff when caving and it still gets cracked. I’ve replaced a few straps, lost a few watches to the straps breaking while underground, and killed a few with cracked housings and...

    Wrist watches for caving

Just reviving this thread rather than starting a new one. I'm looking for something more resilient than a casio F-91W because i seem to go through two a year! I'm starting to think it might be cheaper to get a better watch than to keep replacing cheap ones. From the reviews above the G-Shock...

    Has anyone tried a Siligun?

Great video! That broke so easily and comically it's almost like you staged it for the filming! That looks like some bad luck with a stress fracture - the tube must've cushioned some of you aforementioned skyhook pendulums. Thanks for making me chuckle at a bolting video!

Does anyone offer paid guided trips in abandoned mines North Wales?

If you're North Wales based and want to get into it as a hobby then joining a caving club (https://british-caving.org.uk/about-bca/caving-clubs/) is a great idea. UCET (https://www.ucet.org.uk/) are fantastic! It'd also give you a good friends network and be cheaper. If you definitely want to...

    Rigging Carabiner Choice

The smaller, the lighter, and cheaper the better as long as it's rated and a screw lock (easiest to clean out - as Cantclimbtom said). I think the CT lime is currently one of the cheapest options out there and is pretty light at 46g!

Flying with drill batteries and headtorch batteries and spare headtorch batteries and power banks...

I flew from MAN to VIE this summer with 2x drill batteries, battery banks, 7? x 21700 batteries, personal devices etc and had no issues other than needing two trays at security to scan them. I'm pretty sure it was with RyanAir and I was required to have all electricals in my carry-on luggage...

    North Wales mines

For other readers: I have just remembered I have written a route description for CRTT that can be found here: https://checc.org/caving-around-the-uk/north-wales/ It is quite idiot proof so apologies if it babies you a little. But it should mean you have a smooth and enjoyable trip for a place...

Can you spare just a few seconds to help Settle Swimming Pool?

Just done it. A worthy cause - I learnt to swim there! (and used to buy a lot of cream eggs from the little shop there too...)

    North Wales mines

There is! (kind of). Dave Baines has written a lovely series of documents with the headline info for some of the most popular mines for most mining regions. North Wales Mines by him I am using as a ticklist currently. It will tell you the name of the mine, where it is, and where to park but...

    WIN 10 DMM Screwgate Karabiners!!

This day also started with planning to bolt an entirely different place but the first party in there descended the entrance pitch and wallowed through the mud for a very short distance before discovering the entire cave was underwater so we had to drive over to this second mine to salvage the...

SRT set up options for “Top heavy “ cavers

Apologies all. I got my wires crossed. It is the Mao system. Pompier is the old french term for fire fighters I believe and their thick belts were the first harnesses (ish) which some of the first carabiners were used for (other than holding rifles).

SRT set up options for “Top heavy “ cavers

A great resource! It's lovely to see someone has taken a scientific approach to everyone's hunches. My main advice would be this: Ascending is a lot about balance and centre of mass. It's a lot easier the shorter and skinnier you are because of how SRT kits are commonly setup in caving with...

    A Good Mine Clean Up!

Great to see! I was thinking of doing the same there after last week's trip. If you've any more clean-up projects in N Wales I'd be more than happy to help!

Poachers Flooded Above the Rock Bridge

Often in wet spells the Tunnel doesn't take all the flow which is why the presence of the surface river can be used as a tell as to the conditions underground, but it seems to me that the Milwr is taking less of the flow than it used to. Unfortunately, there's no outflow data for the Milwr, that...

Poachers Flooded Above the Rock Bridge

Space Doubt - are the photos of the mined passage at the bottom of the pitch or the short section after you've stepped down below it with a way on to your left and right (and you go right)? If the later is the case, then that would be in-line with the 1.8m reading I had in my original post -...
