    Plug & Feathers

I found bits of string, snoopys, tape etc just got in the way, though I was wearing gloves and other stuff which makes an easy job hard. What was a good thing was a bit of bright yellow tape on each plug/ feather. Generally makes them easier to  see when you drop it. And a small mechanics tool...

    Capping underwater

Roger, I've used wedge and feathers underwater a lot. And I mean right underwater. They are so effective, you don't need that much energy in your hammer swing to make them work. The down side is that they need bigger holes.

Reservoir Hole stuff, and boy there's a lot of it

Well done folks, excellant work. An inspiration to diggers everywhere. I loved the the little snippet on page 1 or 2, 'That scalloping tells a story'.

    Used drysuit zip request

Hi John, Sorry, but can't help. But I've got exactly the same problem! Good luck, Cheers.

    Capping underwater

Hi Rhys, Yes, it does work. As Pitlamp and others have stated, the drilling is easier, as long as the water is flowing. If static, it just forms a zero vis gloom. So when you pull the drill out to see if it's deep enough, you then have to spend ages trying to find the hole again to carry on...

    Pwll Dwfn

Thanks Cavegirl, Sadly, I'm not going myself now. But there will be lots of activity the following weekend. Can any visitors please watch out for the hose in the entrance. Plus, if a nice metallic glint catches anyones eye, there's a lost wedding ring down there. Maybe by the hose, maybe near...

    Pwll Dwfn

Hi Cavegirl, Yes we are there this weekend, but there's no need to postpone your trip. I'm going down Saturday by myself and it would be great to have some other folk there. Admittedly, I do have a large bag to take in and it would be great if I could distribute some of the smaller, more...

Who cares about how you say the name. What's far more interesting is, Gareth, who are those girls in your profile picture? Please let them all be your sisters.

    Digging Kit

Ruminator, that's a great 'list'. That stuff in the drag tray doesn't look very user friendly. I've found the longer crow bars, about 1m, are really good when in a fairly low dig. You might not be able to turn it around very easy, but it's so usefull for racking stuff back whilst you lay on...

Photos of the lake in Pridhamsleigh

Hi Pete, It's been such a long time since diving in the sea, I'd forgotten about that. If I remember, a diver is 2.5 to 3% deeper in fresh water than the gauge shows, unless calibrated for fresh water? So the above mentioned dive is about 1m deeper, 39.5m. Sooo glad I didn't know that at the...

Photos of the lake in Pridhamsleigh

I did many dives in there in the 90's. Some narrow rifts were found around the edge of the submerged chamber which, according to the old type of depth gauge I was wearing, showed a max depth of 36m. However, after getting a computer gauge, this always read about 2.5m deeper than the analogue...

    Drill bits used for capping

Thought I should just point out some differences in drill bits. Having recently started capping, I'd decided to go for 8mm bits and Hilti caps. With 1 of my bits, the caps fell in easy as, whilst on another bit, I really had to whack then in. 3 of the bits were new. Different length ones from...

BDCC Mendip Cave Map now with old OS 1:25K mapping

Bill, that's really good seeing these old maps. Any idea what date the Mendip area was published. I see the trains are still there, and I guess a long time before the M4 was built. Most of Wells is 'missing', and even small little villages like Wookey are shown as a fraction of their current size.

    Pollution in Burrington

Just called Environment Agency for an update, and the problem was reported by several different people. Going over to Rickford on Friday, the smell had dropped, but the water was still really milky. Apparently, ammonia readings were taking from the rising. Interesting how Langford is running...

    Hilti Capping demo on ***VIDEO***

So my first box of red hilti caps has just arrived and now I'm looking for something to demolish! But I've put a accurate vernier gauge on, and the rim is 8.1mm wide. So Ed, you've stated that you drift them into a 8mm hole with a rounded brass rod. Does that require a fair old bit of whacking...
