    Tony Oldham

Sorry to hear this news. Tony produced several books on the various caving regions of Wales. Likeable guy who was around since the Sixties. Sleep well Tony.

    First Aid Kits

One of these used to be the Rescue Kit for Daren Cilau, hanging up by the door in Whitewalls. Whiskey would have been drained by the executioner/first aider!

    Lost a Fiddle?

Thanks for your kind comment. When we sell it we will use the dosh to buy books for the CSS library, and on the subject of books may I recommend you buy Martyn Farr’s Hidden Realms if you have not got it already. Oh b*gger, there I have gone off thread! Barrel of larfs indeed.

    Lost a Fiddle?

That really is a different thread. Post it if you want but please do it separate to this posting as we want to find owner of said Fiddle without having to trawl through countless replies about folks having forgotten this and that. Cheers.

    Lost a Fiddle?

A violin has been left at Whitewalls, the hut of Chelsea Speleological Society. Not the normal type of thing to be left in a caving club hut! It has been sitting in the club’s library for the last 10 years, and enquiries have failed to reveal its owner. If it belongs to anyone on this forum...

    More caving cartoons

Joe, Next time you visit Whitewalls, have a look in the Library. The Rushmore cartoon is in there and was donated by the late Dick Laurence. I think it was a McLaughlin cartoon, but I may be mistaken. cheers, Paul

    Welsh Wezzit

With a bouldery floor like that, I am guessing Draenen. It’s not OFD 2 Big Chamber!

    Earthquake overninght

CSS teams visited Agen Allwedd on Saturday, visiting Main Passage, Midnight Passage near Second Choke and some did the Grand Circle and no one reported any changes to the cave. A couple of folks noticed the quake on Friday with one bod sleeping in his van thinking someone was messing about...

    Arthur T Millet

You could have repaired Inca Temples with Arthur’s sandwiches, they were so thick and chunky! Sad that he has gone as we had many good trips to Co. Clare, and France way back, and then there were the Daren Cilau explorations of the 1980s. I remember coming out from the Frag Street dig down...

    Bruce Bedford

Great writer who also wrote play scripts for the BBC, as well as being editor of Descent in its early years. He was also a Chelsea member for many years and kept in touch through his attendance at their Western Section Annual Dinners held in the Hunter’s.

Banff Mountain Film Festival - Caving Films?

I have just received this from Banff?. Hi Paul, thank you so much for your email and feedback. We would really love to show a film about caving but very few of them are entered into the festival - probably in no small part because of the difficultly in filming in a cave environment. There have...

Banff Mountain Film Festival - Caving Films?

Matt, I would be interested to know what few caving films have been included in the Banff program of films in the last 10 years as I have been going for around 8 years and nothing has featured. I believe Ario Dreams was in their program presented in Finland some years back but bizarrely, it was...

Banff Mountain Film Festival - Caving Films?

I have been to several of the Banff Mountain Film Festival showings in theatres over the years, and yet have never seen anything relating to caving. Do they not like us? There must be plenty of short films being made in the U.K., Europe, and the USA that would showcase our fantastic sport of...
