Recently there was long thread about the BCA. I can now post possible answers to some of the questions, such as "Why is the BCA still raising membership prices when there is a significant amount still left in its coffers?"

This sort of thing exasperates me!

September's Turkish rescue - medical details if possible

For the last 3 years I have been talking to medical students on a Wilderness Medicine course on caving and cave rescue illustrating it with accounts of recent rescues. The Turkish rescue was unusual in that the issue was a medical emergency rather than a consequence of being in a cave. Has...

Chat GPt - a way to go for reliable information

This new AI system clearly trawls the net for its information but it seems to then garble it effectively. I asked it to describe the caves of Devon. Here is what I got: Kent's Cavern: Located in Torquay, Kent's Cavern is one of the most famous caves in the UK. It's a limestone cave system...

    Middle Atlas Morocco

I am researching the exploration done in the Taza area of the Middle Atlas and currently having problems finding a publication on the 1965 trip to Friouato and Chiker caves. Some major finds were made by cave divers Mike Wooding and Mike Jeanmaire but so far the British Caving Library hasn't...

Recording the Discovery of the Decade and other discoveries

To be honest if people don't put it on paper it just disappears. Somebody told me about significant finds in DYO a few years ago  - named passages and all. When I went looking there was  absolutely nothing in print despite several exploratory and digging trips with the approval of the cave...
