    The Masongill Traverse

This trip was conceived a while ago, when I decided I wanted a good journey through a cave. I settled on Masongill, as I hadn’t explored several parts of this wonderful system, and had chatted to Dave Ramsay at work about his many explorations in the system. I settled on Large to Ireby, as...

    Ireby Fell

Hello wonderful folk, I’ve been chatting with the wonderful David Ramsay at work, and have gotten my heart set on a couple of trips down Ireby. Couple of questions about the conditions. 1) Cripple Creek. Has anyone had a look at the ropes and hangers in here? Or the ones up to Jupiter? Dave...

    Ye olden days cave names

I’ve recently read through a couple of older publications about the caves in Yorkshire, the first being “A tour of the caves in the environs of Ingleborough and Settle" By John Hutton, published in 1780. The second was "Cave Hunting" By William Boyd Dawkins (who was a mate of John Birkbeck)...

Date:25/2/23 Cavers: Myself, Aila T, James W (AKA Hagrid), Charlie C Trip: Gingling Hole, Big Rift route A dry morning was a good sign for our second crack at this Fountains Fell classic. Aila and I managed to steal Charlie and Hagrid from their own trips, Charlie because he wanted to go...

Jingling pot, no not that one

I was checking out a map of the lakes, and spotted Jingling pot on the map, south of Shap on Hardendale fell. The satellite shows a very inviting shake hole and I was wondering if there was any more information on it, northern caves and CNCC were dead ends, mostly due to Jingling being a popular...

Found, srt gear in large pot

Found in the Eldon extensions last Friday, may have been lost during the three counties traverse, or after. If you?re missing a bit of metalwork after being in there, let me know what it is, and it may be yours!

    Goyden pot blockage

On a trip today with my dad in Goydon, and we were forced to abandon a round trip due to a huge plug of flood debris blocking the entrance end of Cap Left crawl. Looked like it could take some effort to dig out. Also contained a multitude of pheasant corpses, so mind the smell!

    Giants pantin

How do, on a trip to Giants this Tuesday I found a pantin on the approach, and was wondering if anyone has been in there recently and is now missing one. Was fairly clean and looked like it hadn?t been there too long

CHECC 2020 Why I joined the club entries

This is the thread that will hopefully be filled with short essays on why people joined their club, and what made them stick around. I?m hoping for heart strong tugging content here, make me feel proud of a club I?m not even a member of! The prize is a ?50 Starless river voucher, donated by...

CHECC 2020 My favourite cave entries

So this one will be a showcase of your favourite cave, and why it should be everyone?s favourite. Photos encouraged, and a trip report would help describe them very well to others. The winning entry will be crowned cave of the year 2020, a meaningless title I just came up with, but it sounds...

Our grand leader Botch has decreed that on his way out there will be a new CHECC logo, for us to remember him by. As such we leave it up to you wonderful people to come up with a good design for us! Try not to make them too obscene. Botch himself will be picking the winning entry. The prize...

CHECC 2020 song writing competition entries

Rostam has had the monopoly on caving songs sung at CHECC Events for too long, and it?s time for us, the common student cavers to rise up and take it from him. Your song can be an original, or a cover, and the only limit is your imagination. Try not to slag off another club too much, they might...

    Main chamber vs Titan

A question was brought up over dinner, as to which of the two had a greater volume. Having been in both, I assumed that main chamber was bigger, but have heard it argued both ways. I know Main chamber has been laser surveyed; has something similar been done in Titan, or would one have to work...

    Caving etiquette

Can anyone think of some bits of caving etiquette, unwritten rules, things like that? Stuff like don?t use others rope without permission, defer to permit holders if you are being cheeky. I?ve run into some people who don?t do these things (very rarely thankfully, go caving community!), but as I...
