    Tick prevalence in the UK

Caught a couple before they got chance to dig in while working in the Scottish borders a couple of weeks ago, and that was from walking through a field next to the Tweed. They got unceremoniously crushed between my thumbnails. Not picked any up yet on the higher ground areas I frequent.

    'pretty' caves in the dales?

I've always found Notts 2 and Illusion Pot to be pretty but some of the sights in Easegill are equally lovely.

    Squeeze practice

The entrance to Southerscales Pot behind Great Dowk is a squeeze, and an awkward one.

    Asthma Inhaler Storage

I have had the roll and clip top pouches leak, one of my phone ones had a puddle in it at the end of a water rescue exercise recently. If it's a critical piece that cannot get wet then a small peli case might be your best option.

    A Fish in Swinsto

A couple of years back I saw fish in Borrins Moor, and given where thay water goes it would be interesting to know how they got up there

    Caves with exposed rigging/traverses?

Also slightly surprised it wasn't mentioned earlier for exposure, chatting about it in the pub last night and everyone who'd rigged it had the same to say about it being a fear inducing place. Looking down into the cloud at the boulders and an audiance in the window makes it a lonely place.

    Knot pass (free hanging)

Last time I did it I ended up joining a 9mm (fairly new and unused slippery stuff) onto a 10.5mm, it worked but the movement of the 9mm in the knot was noticable, definitely want the back up knot up hill, not that it was pulled towards the main knot in that case.

    Coroners' Reports

Quite a few years back I attempted to get hold of coroners reports into a few deaths in Cheshire during the 1920s and early 1930s (aircraft accidents) with a hope of pinning down where some incidents had actually occurred. While the reports are meant to be available after 75 years it turned out...

    Knot pass (free hanging)

Second vote for Figure 8 on a bight, rethreaded with the left over tail of the lower knot tied in a stopper on the upper rope. Though I do try not to have pass a knot, but it happens.

Eyam Dale Shaft resin anchor replacement

Excellent work there Pete. Any plans to test the old worn anchors to failure?

    999 text service

I registered years ago, text register to 999 then reply yes to the do you want to register question. Never had to use it, on the odd occasion I've had to summon help it's been by calling.

    Freeze Squeeze - Nettle Pot

I really liked the pretties before the squeeze, not seen stals quite so clear before, and the Calcite flows on the clay like sheets of ice. But also one of the muddiest places I've been for a while.

    Freeze Squeeze - Nettle Pot

We might have to go back at some point to give it a try with the correct technique. Good to know it's easier in the way out.

    Freeze Squeeze - Nettle Pot

Three of us were down Nettle Pot, discovering the muddy delights of the Flats on Friday last week. We came out a new colour of ochre. Has anyone got through Freeze Squeeze recently? Just wondering what the technique is. Had a go feet first as close to the right wall as possible (facing the...

Got logged in fine, everything seems to work apart from my 2024 BCA membership isn't showing.

There was some interesting oscillation in the levels on Thursday as the water came through from the heavy rain on Wednesday.

CRTT - No rope of Croesor 1st Pitch

Hard rigging P1 works well in theory, only downside is if you've walked up from Tanygrisiau someone has to walk back across to Croesor and then back to Rhosydd along that not exactly delightful path while the rest of your party either makes their way back to the road or stands about getting cold...

    Carabiners - Uses & Preferences...

My current configuration is: Central connection - D Maillon on my harness, if I'm carrying a tackle bag up or down a pitch I hang it from the bottom of the maillon which is not something you're meant to do with the autolockers. I do however have an autolocking D on my belt and I really like it...

    Pull-through rope lengths

I've used a 55m and something else, about 25 or 30 from memory, leap frogging down to Slit Pot then tied the shorter rope onto the end of the 55 for Slit as the pull down, after passing the top end of the 55 through the anchors. Given the weight of 9mm it isn't hard to carry 80ish metre of rope...
