    County Pot ropes

Of course, this is the norm - and now we know not to rely on the fixed ropes in County anymore!

    County Pot ropes

The latest CNCC newsletter has a piece on their party line for leaving ropes in a cave for a long period of time: https://cncc.org.uk/file/7a91fc99-126d-60fc-de55-2a92da4ba2fa

    County Pot ropes

I guess it's better to assume a pitch is not going to be permanently rigged; from now on if I found a rope on County, I'd assume it was someone elses and there's no guarantee it would be there when i got back; better to rig it again than end up having to free-climb or head out through Wretched...

    County Pot ropes

I must admit, the fixed ropes in County have been really useful over the last couple of years, but I can understand the rationale for asking people to rig their own. I wouldn't see a problem with someone leaving their ropes rigged on a pitch for a number of months, unless it made rigging along...

    Valley Entrance fixed ropes

They both looked in pretty good nick, yes.

    Valley Entrance fixed ropes

To the left as you approach the pitch from the roof tunnel, yes; I thought the route off to the right was for rigging a traverse line in flood (or a ladder down to the stream).

    Valley Entrance fixed ropes

Hi all, I was in Valley Entrance on Sunday to rig the short roof tunnel pitch. The were two (quite fat) fixed ropes on the P-bolts for the simple y-hang. Are these fixed aids? It was a bit of a struggle to rig anything else off the hangers. I'm not against fixed aids, but two fat ropes on the...

    Gaping Gill - BPC May

Hi all - this will be my first time caving in GG during the Winch Meet - the plan was to make a through trip, in through Stream and out Marylin this weekend. Would this work? Any advice on when's best to arrive/where to park for the walk up the fell if Clapham is deleteriously busy?

    Small Mammal Pot

Hi all, just looking for a bit of advice. The CNCC rigging topo for Small Mammal Pot suggests you can easily descend this pitch and reach the bottom of Bar Pot entrance pitch; however, a number of trip reports suggests that route finding, and the caving, is much more difficult than the topo...

A new cave on Mendips - The Last White Rabbit Hole (Tuska's Last)

Great photos - fossil looks like a Rugose (solitary) coral: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rugosa#:~:text=Rugose%20corals%20have%20a%20skeleton,especially%20in%20the%20Silurian%20period.

King Pot - loose boulders and bats

Spent a lovely Saturday down King Pot - given the amount of moss in the entrance rift, it doesn't look like too many people have been down this summer. Anyway, apologies if this has already been noted but: 1. There's at least one loose, large boulder at the far side of the Anne's Pitch bypass...

    Ireby water conditions

Hey all, I remember reading in an old CNCC rigging guide it said that some routes in Ireby were doable when water levels were high...is this still the case? The only reason I ask, is that I also seem to remember someone mentioning that the water course had changed over the last few years too...

Diesel smell in Swildons (Blue Pencil)

Apologies if this has been brought to people's attention before.... On the short round trip today (Sunday 6th Feb) and definately caught a whiff of some diesel or other fuel - this was near the bottom of the traverse over Blue Pencil going up to the start of the Troubles. Didn't smell too...
