I've just been reading about Draughting Hole, the maze cave that's recently been discovered in Gretadale. Which made me wonder: why are maze caves so prevalent in the northern dales and apparently not further south, or in other caving areas?

I'm part way through Jeremy Paxman's latest book, 'Black Gold' about coal mining in the UK (published in the last 48 hours). As you'd expect, it's well written. I assume it's reasonably well researched - I don't know enough about it to comment. I'd love to have an informed opinion?

Some years ago I came across a reference to a stream or streams sinking somewhere around Clee Hill with a short resurgence cave approximately 1 km away. However, I can't track down the reference anywhere. Can anyone help?
