    An informative discussion

Recently there was long thread about the BCA. I can now post possible answers to some of the questions, such as "Why is the BCA still raising membership prices when there is a significant amount still left in its coffers?"

    A significant dig?

Found this on the news. Do these guys hail from Mendip by any chance? https://uk.yahoo.com/news/drug-tunnel-discovered-linking-mexico-185955564.html

    Souter Hole, Whitburn.

Souter Hole seems to be in the news, a small hole having fairly suddenly opened up into a 40-foot sinkhole with a beach at the bottom. The National Trust have fenced it off to stop people falling down it.  I don't know what access there is for cavers, or how much there might be to see down...

    Ice Caves of Mount Erebus

Very interesting stuff on BBC1 just now.  David Attenborough's Frozen Planet has some fascinating footage of ice caves on the flanks of the active volcano Mt Erebus in Antarctica.

    The Eyam Spirit???

A few hundred years ago, when the people of Eyam found that the plague was loose in their village, they all stayed at home - at great cost to themselves - to avoid spreading the plague into the surrounding areas. Today when there's a more infectious version of the Covid loose in the South-East...

    Cracking up?

Is anyone cracking up under the enforced lockdown? I think I might be starting to, but I'm not the only one... I was talking to my old mate Sid on the phone last night, asking him how he was getting on stuck at home with this coronavirus. ?Not very well,? he replied.  ?Not very well at all. ...

    Pizzas on a cardboard base

I've just had some junk mail from my local @!-%& Food Store advertising their "pizzas on a cardboard base." Now I've come across deep pan,  flatbread and stuffed crust, but cardboard?

    Summit visible from Keswick

It's nothing to do with caving - but I have been trying to identify a summit visible from the window of a flat we have stayed at in Keswick for a couple of times.  The skyline looking south is rather broken up by a collection of roofs and chimneys, but this fell stands out clearly at about 5...

    Portland slow to load?

I know Portland is a long way from Yorkshire, but the Portland threads on the Forum seem very slow to load - much slower than the other stuff.  Am I alone in experiencing this?

    Antivirus software

We have been running a well-known brand of Russian antivirus software on our home computers that was provided for free by our friendly bank.  They are no longer offering this service, however.  So I need to get something else. What antivirus stuff would people on here recommend?  Should we...

To settle a family discussion - can anyone tell me when the guided tours in the Peak Cavern stopped going beyond Pluto's Dining Room?

Internet seems slow today.  UK Caving is slower than usual and Yahoo mail is practically unusable.  Any (helpful!) comments, anyone?

    Underground Bradford

Interesting bit on the Calendar News this evening when weatherman Jon Mitchell went exploring some of the passages under Bradford. One place he went into was an old prison cell near Ivegate.  Wonder if this is the one the Methodist preacher John Nelson was imprisoned in back in 1744?

    Blocking a particular thread

This may have been asked before, but: Is there a way for me to block a particular thread or topic so that it doesn't come up in my "unread posts" list and I don't have to be irritated by it? There are one or two topics on the forum at the moment that I don't really want to see or hear anything...

    Deep hole in the ground...
