Can you edit your posts?

It's been brought to my attention that some people can't edit their posts on the forums.

You *should* be able to edit your post for 1/2 hour after you post it.

Does everyone have this problem?

I'm OK. Edited one the other day.

Why only half an hour, by the way? I messed up the quote facility the other day, but didn't notice till too late - I'd have liked to go back and edit that.

Its handy to be able to edit posts forever after. For example if your discussing something, arranging something its handy to keep track with a summery in the 1st post.

The last post or two I have found I don't have the edit icon appear at all after posting.

I hear what people are saying, but if you can change posts after a load of others have replied, it can make a bit of a mess of things, especially if you remove a lot of stuff that others have referred to. I do, however, like the way we are all trusted to be responsible here, and that everyone seems to behave themselves. Perhaps allowing edits for more than an hour (or whatever it is) would be OK.

I can also not edit my posts. It seems to be a bit on and off. IMO editing should be available all the time, like Darkplaces pointed out it's handy for having a 1'st post kept up to date for planning things etc.

Posts should be available for editing for no more than a few hours otherwise people will have replied and qoutes/comments made could be removed and then things get messed up as Peter says above...

I will see how things go for editing.....

Hmmm, for some reason I can't edit my previous post on here (about 20mins back) but could do on a post I just made on another part of forum (although I checked that about 1minute after posting it!)

Further to the above, I made a slight edit to a post 22mins after posting in the vid-photo section - no problems for me there (although can't edit stuff in this section!)

Thanks everyone - it's not been an obvious one to track down but it helps to know that it's not happening to everyone everywhere.

There is a very finely-grained permissions system in place with this forum software and something is obviously set up wrongly somewhere.

It's not desirable to allow editing beyond a certain time because, as Peter has said above, it ruins the thread of a discussion if earlier posts can be altered.
