    An informative discussion

Recently there was long thread about the BCA. I can now post possible answers to some of the questions, such as "Why is the BCA still raising membership prices when there is a significant amount still left in its coffers?"

Hi, looking to meet with local caver's/potholers, or to make contact with local club.  Totally inexperienced when it comes to caving.  Am experienced climber and work in rope access so familiar with some of the hardware, techniques etc.  Live nr Glen Coe in Scotland and am just a few miles from Appin.  Any help or advice much appreciated.

Hi there,

You'll be wanting to get in touch with the Grampian Speleological Group then...  Hut in Assynt but plenty going on all over Scotland where there be limestone and regular ventures down south and abroad.  Lots of digging in Appin going on too....

Contact details are at
http://www.sat.dundee.ac.uk/arb/gsg/info.html

Lots of the committee are Edinburgh based (like me) but are frequently up north at the hut - more often than not in some cases!

Hope to meet you soon,

Julie

:-[  Quite!  Had a short period of inactivity on the caving front for a month or so but back down Flood next weekend weather permitting!  See you then!

Yeah, but Les; if Mendip cavers can dig all over Sutherland, why shouldn't GSG members find cave on Mendip?

Ah, good to hear there's active cavers north of the border. I've just got a job up in edinburgh for the next two years starting this summer and was thinking there was a distinct lack of limestone thereabouts.

Where do the GSC go caving most then, is it long drives down to yorkshire, or up so skye/ or is ther a great speleological treasure trove that none of us english are ever told about?

I also wondered, are there any good caver friendly pubs up there (edinburgh or elsewhere)?

Och aye fur noo.

Tubby Two - Edinburgh is surprisingly well bestowed with cavers.  So active are they that I can barely keep up with them.  The GSG meetslist is manic with somethign on practically every weekend.  It is a fair hike up to the hut in Sutherland but that doesnt put many people off - even lots of Mendip memebrs regularly travel up for the diging.  Takes about 4 hours from here in Ed but it is a great drive!  ABout 2 hours down to the Dales unless you acept a lift with Goon in which case you arrive just before you left.

There is a link a few posts down about the GSG pub meet that tells you about the pub where we meet on a Tuesday evening.  Fine company and good beers and in teh city centre. I'm generally useless at turning up myself but there is generally a good turnout.  Maybe see you there sometime.....

hi, I don't know if you're still looking for cavers in the area but I am working in Oban at the moment and am keen to explore some more caves in Appin - get in touch if you're interested.
