We are planning a trip to Magnetometer Pot in April and apart from the description in Northern caves, I can't find out much about it.

Does anybody know what tackle is required and if there is a survey available, or a description of what to expect ?

Thanks

Robin.

As far as I recall the entrance pitch is about 50 feet deep best laddered (and lined!)
The cave is quite nice especially the section beyond the crawls leading up to Caton Hall. We didn't go any further as it apparently gets fairly squalid. I remember some easy but slightly daunting traverse over deep flooded pots :? I think that bit was between the entrance and the crawls. The crawls were memorable as I was in a wetsuit with no knees and no knee pads
My overall memory of the cave is that I would definitely do it again.

IIRC River Styx is very aqueous - wetsuit recommended, (though I went in Winter)

Trip to Caton Hall is good. Crawls below Caton Hall are horrid (and flood to the roof). Not sure they are worth bothering with, but I didn't go much further than Caton

To get into Caton Hall its just two ladders - about 10m each(?).. The first part of the entrance can be climbed (concrete rings) towards bottom of rings a ladder is needed.

The wet/dry crawls near the entrance are wet - did them in fleece and was a bit chilly but not too bad - its fine after that if you're only going to Caton Hall - going beyond there a wetsuit would be more pleasurable.

The crawls below Caton are low, wet, cold and generally uninspiring - I got as far as the duck - sent someone with a wetsuit in to check it out - it was deep and me and the other fleece wearer were getting chilly by this time so a retreat was made.

A trip to Caton Hall is good.

I take it your internet search found you

http://www.pennine.demon.co.uk/NPC/1957/FF4.HTM

which has a printable survey, though it's short on rigging details.
