The team over 3 weeks explored 21 new caves and 11.7km of new caves all in Quang Binh province central Vietnam. Another 3km was explored in 2 other caves in nearby provinces. The expedition started off bad as on the second day in the jungle a 100kg boulder decided to move and fall onto one members arm which was broken in 3 places. This was at the top of a 90m shaft so it could have been much worse. Another member contracted a chest infection requiring hospital admission so our team numbers were reduced. On returning to the 90m shaft a team pushed to -278m and still continuing but ran out of rope. A new area to the team gave excellent results with river caves and good size dry passage. The whole mountain seems to have a drainage system with numerous sinks on the edge of the limestone with many interconnecting caves. Many of the river caves were explored using SUP's which made surveying and photography so much easier than swimming.
