Speleo technics...

Bummer. I wonder why that happened.

I guess I'll have to find a different supplier when my FX Headlite packs up.

much of it is repairable yourself, including replacing the batteries inside the battery box (even i managed that one recently) and there seems to be plenty of people out there prepared to customise them and upgrade the guts of them as well so i don't think that's too much of an issue.
I'm not overly surprised speleo technics have gone, there is a lot of competition out there now and they've been a bit behind on things for a while really.

I think they also had a chunk of the angling market, but with cheaper imports it was probably inevitable without them developing. Pity.

If that's Keith Lewis then I too wish him a happy retirement. He's been producing caving gear for at least 30 years, all usable if not always cutting edge.

And I'd like to apologise for the sarcy remarks re his spat with Jim Eyre, made in the Snooty Fox 27 years ago.  :-[ Lucky not to get a slap there, I think ::)

I seem to remember an online guide to changing the Nova batteries insode the box but cant now find it. Could do with a quick reminder for when mine start to flag. With Biff's new PL XPG upgrade up front it would be a shme not to drive it at full wack now and again

i've never seen an online guide, i used a Mike W guide/assistance as he'd done them before! All you need is a sharp knife, a soldering iron and a glue gun. I've got the details at home for a cheap place to buy exactly the same batteries as the green connector ones use, which i can post later.

I would be interested to know what the batteries are. I have found ones which are identical but for the solder tabs!, and I am on battery pack 'G', so replacing the cells would be better than keep buying new packs....

Chris.

these definitely had solder tabs, i'll dig out the receipt with the details on later and post. I kept it specifically so i could order same next time!

Just replaced some myself (this is an exact match for what I found inside, batteries are approx 10 years old):

Have also replace one battery pack using the following (seem to work fine and lasts a bit longer)...
http://www.budgetbatteries.co.uk/20315/tagged-c-size-nimh-3500mah-gp-industrial-rechargeable-cell/

Requires a soldering iron, insulating tape and a mastic gun to re-seal battery box.

Hopefully no-one is about to tell me its all about to blow up!

I actually visited the Speleotechnics 'factory' last year. The place certainly had character! I'll always have a softspot for their stuff, as I started caving with an FX3. It added a certain something to every trip!
