North Wales ideas

Cheddar caving club is off to North wales in a week or two to do the croesor rosydd through trip.
We're sorted for that, but does anyone have suggestions for a fun trip on the Sunday, not too long as we'll be heading back home after late lunch?

Cheers

Assuming you don't want more slate -

Bwlch y Plwm near Llanfrothen maybe. You could spend an hour or two exploring. A through trip is possible from top to bottom adit requiring a 20' + 120' rope if memory serves. You could have a look at Pant-y-wrach which are nearby.

Alternatively Cae Coch Sulphur mine in the Conwy Valley.

did the croeser through trip a couple of weeks ago.

Ropes were all good, as was the canoe on the final lake.

but as i'm sure you will, go prepared!!!

Rhiwbach Slate Mine is quite good fun and also a through trip - Google it - you'll find plenty of info.

Dan.

Yes, but access is not 'open' as such because it is used by Go Below.

I would second the Cwmorthin suggestion. Or why not try a spot of caving at Ogof Hesp Alyn or Poachers?

Chris.

Mrs Trellis.

Nothing on topic here or in relevance to the original post. But, in that ICNorthwales report it states that Poachers was originally being dug by a few members of the NPC, do we know who? Just out of interest :)

Poachers however is an excellent cave, short but good. I've yet to go down OHA but I hear that's better :) For North Wales at least :P

If you contact NWCC I'm sure a trip into ODB or could be arranged. Lovely little cave.

Alternatively you can do a lovely little pull though (you'll need 62m of rope) from the top of Bwlch y Plwm, if you want something different from slate. If not Cwmorthin is a cracking (literally in places) slate mine and pretty close to the carpark. Access can be gained by emailing gatecode(at)cwmorthin.co.uk but its worth downloading a plan from one of the mine exploration sites and printing it out on A3 unless you know the mine

Have fun!!
