The carbon footprint of this ridiculous journey is absolutely appalling.

Bah, Humbug!

I've just been to see it go past the end of my road, it was a real party atmosphere compared to the usual urban dullness and misery that prevails round here, in my opinion a bit of carbon is worth the feel good factor it's spreading.
Same goes for my 300tdi.

Just eaten a Chilli con Carne.

My carbon footprint will be pretty appalling in an hour or so.

Live a little ... sheesh.

Funny that someone who is "hated by the Daily Mail" would be linking their content ...

:-\  Whitelackington!, is that you?

Lately I read dinosaurs farts caused more global warming than todays society.
That said I'd rather see one of these walking around Britain than the above parade

Reading about all this olympic business is giving me a warm fuzzy feeling, could that be from the extra carbon from this somewhat extravagant event or just the level of alcohol I've recently imbibed?

Bizarrely I agree with Graham insofar as it is completely ridiculous.

It is a pity they can't just do a proper relay without all the baggage.

Chris.

I was watching the procession this morning on the 'puter as it came through my town (Wells). Although I am a complete cynic and generally don't see the point, it was strangely compelling and eventually I had to turn the 'puter off so as to achieve something of my day. I really don't know what the attraction was but it was quite difficult to stay away from the screen...

It must be something to do with the introduction of fire to your area, we have had it for a long time !  :clap2:

There are some animatronic ones at Bristol Zoo from this weekend.

Ture it's a completely pointless feature, but don't complain about the carbon. This is only going to represent 0.00000001% of the total Olympics footprint...

Sure, but it does rather exemplify the issue.

That's nothing. On average somewhere in the region of 7.5m people attend the Olympics (source: Wiki.answers.com) and while this is a large number of people the Olympics only last three weeks, thus equating to approximately 160m person-days (even this is wrong since I'm guessing not all the people observe the whole event). However, each and every day the world's population increases by 235,000 and if you take the average life expectancy to be a very conservative 65 years this equates to over five and a half billion person days of additional long-term resource-depletion commitment PER day. If Carbon Footprint (which is a fabricated piece of utter nonsense, if ever there was) is so important what is the proposal to curb the root cause rather than the after effect of population growth?

I saw the torch come past the end of our road on Saturday with mild enthusiasm.  I'm more interested in the Eurovision Song Contest and, in homage to that event, I've demolished the rabbit hutch in the back garden and built a wendy house illuminated with old Christmas tree lights in its place.

Excellent. It's just gone past the end of our road. That meant that we had a really nice walk in the woods with the dogs, with no-one about except us.

The Broughton Game Show was cancelled this year because the torch procession is coming through the area on the same day. Since the Broughton Game Show is a major sponsor of cave rescue organisations in the reason, I don't feel much of a feel good factor.
