Gear was Canon 5D MarkII and 7D. Lens was mainly a 16-35mm f2.8 L. The underwater stuff was with a Canon point and shoot in an underwater enclosure.

It's a Petzl Stop which is akin to a Simple - but has a self-breaking lever. They're pretty common for cavers and mine explorers here in California. But then so are racks and 8-type variants (of which my current favorite is the ATS).
