Hi All,

We have recently installed some tell tales and glass slides in the area of the recent roof collapse and also just as you enter the main chamber. Updates in measurements will be available on the How Stean Blog, hopefully this will provide us all with a better understanding of the movement in these sections.

Follow link below to write up and more details....

Are we not best just collapsing it with some bang if we are that worried, rather than waiting for it to collapse onto some un-suspecting victims?

A few folk have suggested this Alex and someone (unknown) has been in with a bar  ...due to the large expanse of rock it could make it worse or turn Goyden into an open pot hole. An option maybe to walk around if unsure rather than blow it up, lots of caves have loose bits. Happy to have a look if your up dale?

Yep lots of caves do and I have been in oh so much more scary places, but by the sounds of this, this is going to collapse inanimately as its moving according to your tests? Or is that due to the person with a bar (very bad idea, to only half do it!)

I do understand your point, if you knock one bit down you will loosen the next bit etc, though the roof above the current collapse looked solid. Anyway not suggesting you do bang it, it was just a question.

Attempt by unknown to adjust the rock was made between taking original measurements and installing tell tales, so measurements were removed from record as the rock was damaged.

Is it going to collapse soon? Unknown..i am in no position to make this judgment, only poor weather conditions and time will tell after all this is a natural process.

As this is one of my group venues i will manage the risks, and to do this we needed more accurate results rather than guess work.
