Lefel Fawr Mine

Not sure if many of you know of this mine? It's the longest drainage adit in Wales.  The entrance to the mine is in Pontrhydygroes, situated within the garden of The Count House.  The Count House is where the miners would collect their wages from.  There's information on both online.  I will be renting the house out in the summer, and I wondered whether anyone could suggest a good place to advertise to caving enthusiasts?

Be careful, you are venturing into Mining regulations if you are trying to control or offer access to the adit.
You need permission from the "mine owner" to enter the workings.

I know the adit has been freely open in the past, and I have been in there
but just be careful what you offer as rules and liability are different for mines.

I've been in Lefel Fawr. It is well known amongst the local mine exploration fraternity, e.g. the Welsh Mines Society. I would say it is of zero interest to the caving community as it's basically a straight level with some workings off it.

Chris.

P.S. It's not the longest drainage adit in Wales by miles. That has to go to the Milwr Tunnel which is 10 miles long.

I've owned the house and grounds for just over a year now.  I've met a few people who have been through the mine, and I believe there are four levels.  I've not explored it much myself.  Not my bag really.  Lots of other interesting mines in locality too.

For more information, I would suggest you go here;--

They specialise more in mines--

Its interesting if you like mines, and digging,  which I do, as it passes the bottom of the stopes of two mines and stops a bit short of the third. It reminds me I need to go back in there for some digging.
I also have access to property in the village, where I wanted to setup some camping/lodge facilities, which I had also planned to rent out to mine enthusiasts.  (I will try not to step on your toes)
I would also recommend trying the Welsh Mine Society http://www.welshmines.org
If you do want to go in I would suggest you ask Hugh who lives on the top of the hill, the Cafe people will give you his number.
