Whilst walking the pooch around Shipham village hall, I noticed that the lock on the hall shaft is missing. The entrance, if you don't know, is rght on a public footpath covered with a stainless steel hatch  and low stone wall - so not exactly hidden.

I've got a spare CSCC padlock  - any objections if I put it on? The shaft needs to be locked by something.

The shaft has a bolted down grill, so nobody can fall in. If it's locked it's more likely to get broken into.

Just down the hill is Star Mine Shaft. That's padlocked. Has it been broken in to?

I should have known better than to ask a simple question on here.

I'm going to put a nut and bolt on it and do it up tight, so kids can't get in but we can.

Good idea - also stops dog walkers dropping their bags down there (a CSCC lock wouldn't fit anyway)

Star Shaft has not been left open.

A couple of us cleared about a dozen dog poo bags from Star Shaft a few weeks ago. A couple of them had been washed down to the top of the second pitch.
