Cannock Chase ?

Just spent 3 days with 120 (yes 120 ) school kids at Beaudesert Camp at Cannock chase. I know it was a mining area in the past but does anyone know if ther are any mines there to visit /explore or caves?
P.S. The kids had a great time doing all sorts of activities from adventure games to raft building to abseiling instead of sitting in front off computers and tellys ( and homework)

All the mines were deep shaft coal mines. Not many remains to be seen, mostly built on or landscaped. No caves at all.

Probably most interesting thing is the German Military War Cememtary , where all German troops who died in the UK are buried (aircrew etc. mostly) Quite an interesting place from a history viewpoint.

Still sometimes get news items about old shafts reopening and swallowing dogs, allegedly some have never been properly capped anyway, just hidden in the long grass and bracken...

Yes, not all the workings were deep shaft access. The place is riddled with old bell pits going back hundreds of years. The earlist record I can find of coal mining in the area, is 1298!
