Caving Songs

I wasn't sure if this should go in idle chat but as it is caving related I think it should be here.

I have written a caving song for Andy Sparrow and Rachel Paynes wedding on 7th February- I hope we will get to sing it.  Please feel free to use this thread to share your favorite caving songs or self penned one's. Many thanks from Misty

(tune to the Wild Rover)

The Wild Caver

Well I?ve been a wild caver for many a year
And I?ve spent all my money on Sparrow?s cave gear
And now I?m returning with gifts from their store
And I never will play the wild caver no more

chorus:

And it's no, nay, never,
No nay never no more,
Will I play the wild caver
No never no more.

I went to the Hunters I often frequent
And I told lovely Jackie my money was spent.
I asked her for credit, she answered me "nay
Cavers like you walk in here each day."

chorus

I took from my pocket ten carbide lamps bright
And the landlady's eyes opened wide with delight.
She said "I have Potholes and Mines of the best
And the words that I spoke sure were only a test."

chorus

I'll go home to my parents, confess where I've gone
And I'll ask them to pardon their potholing son.
And if they forgive me as often before
Sure I never will play the wild caver no more.

chorus

No. The wife took the photos and shes not impressed with them. I will have a look later and see if there are any good enough to put on here.

Yes it was a lovely wedding - a wonderful location in Goughs Cavern.

Anyway if you have now wriiten some caving songs to share- please feel free to add them here- I'm still waiting to see your poetic skills. :)

Here is a picture.  If anyone has any more myself and Mrs Sparrow would appreciate a copy.

Thanks.

That caving gear isn't recommended in the Complete Caving Manual  :spank: ;D

Managed to find one that was not bad and shows what a spectacular setting it was. Congratulations Mr and Mrs Sparrow!  :clap2:

Congratulations to all; very atmospheric photographs. May you both be happy for a very long time.

The Wild Rover lends itself to adaption to caving - we had a version in the 60's with a verse for each region. I can't remember the Mendips & Yorkshire verses but here goes with the others:-

Chorus

I've been a wild caver for many a year
and I've spent all my money on carbide (I said it was the 60's) and gear.
I've cursed at the traverse, I swore at the duck
Look at me wetsuit it's covered in muck and it's.......no nay never, no nay never no more
Will I play the wild caver, no never no more.

I went up to Giant's I used to frequent
and I told Farmer Watson my money was spent
I asked him for credit - he answered me "Nay
Cavers like you I can get any day" and it's ......... no nay never, etc.

I went down to South Wales with Aggie to do
and got lost in the entrance like most people do
I got to the streamway and I was alright
and I was down there all day and all of the night and it's .......... no , nay never

We have only realy got one photo as we sneaked off and did the deed without telling anyone! If I can remember how to get it onto here I will do it later. It is worth seeing as Hugh is wearing a tie! And I have got a skirt on!
