100's of cavers will be attending Eurospeleo 2016 in the beautiful Yorkshire Dales this Summer.  Many of the areas finest caves will be rigged and many a fabulous caving trip will be had - excellent!

However, what will folks do on their days off / rest days??  What is there to do in the area for non caving friends and family whilst the cavers are underground??  Here's where you can help - and maybe win yourself or your club/group some shiny new rope!!

Post your suggestion for non caving attractions; places to visit; walks; pubs, cafes, restaurants and ideas for what to do when not underground at Eurospeleo 2016.  Not familiar with area? No problem - do some research and get posting.  Hopefully this thread will help the organisers at Eurospeleo 2016 with some ideas and cavers will come up with some informative and interesting ideas.... :sneaky:

We're looking for photos, information, maps, links etc - more info the better.

Also

Skipton Castle  featuring 2 mile wooded walk to the North of the castle and takes in the Springs Branch of the Leeds & Liverpool Canal

There is the Grade 2 listed Flascoe bridge east of Austwick tennis courts which is a nice place to sit for a while, and possibly get wet if you let kids do that sort of thing in the sunshine. Same goes for Stainforth Force I imagine.

Ingleton swimming pool is open too.

Being a bit of a geek, I'd also stop at Horton In Ribblesdale station, 17 years on the trot that won best kept station in England.

Not been on the waterfalls walk though, apart from as a short cut to Kingsdale from Chapel le dale.

Trying to think of famous things foreign visitors may have heard of before travelling here,  how about the Bronte museum in Haworth?

Also York is a pretty city and the Minster is often used as a measure for Gaping gill!  http://www.visityork.org/  fair trek in my book though, Harrogate as a spa town is closer.

The golf balls of Memwith Hill are pretty striking on the way too.]

Craven Museum in Skipton might be worth a look and you could hire a canal boat for a trip there too :)  The museum is commemorating 200 years of the completion of the Leeds Liverpool this year, that appeals to me anyway.

Brush up on those climbing skills with a spot of bouldering at the Ingleton climbing wall (or roped climbing if you prefer!)

if you're bored of being in the dark, take a visit to morecambe beach for the day and enjoy the (hopefully) sunny british weather.

Not sure if these count as "days off"... There are a few excellent fell races in the area that week.

The Lake District National Park is less than an hour away so if anyone should want a change from the wonderful Yorkshire Dales there is a whole new area to explore.
