Help your fellow caver and maybe win 100m Spanset Rope!!

The national railway museum is free entry at York and Shildon.  I believe the Museum of film and photography is too in Bradford.

The curry mile maybe in Rusholme Manchester, but I think Bradford has a fantastic setup, as does Huddersfield for a curry.  Though the Ingleton Tandoori is by all reports pretty tasty too!  A day out at the museum and a curry on the way back, sounds pretty alright to me.

Not a fan of fishing myself, and would you need to drag a rod across the channel but the Helwith Bridge Fly Fishery is not far from the Dalesbridge centre.

Also a trek (hour drive south) but might be interesting is the dry ski slope at Rossendale

For a relaxing and probably confusing afternoon, you could have a watch of a match at the Settle Cricket club, there is a home game for the 1st eleven on Saturday 20th from 13:30.  Assuming it's not rained off.

For appreciation of the countryside, I always feel exhilarated by a trip out to Kilnsey Crag and Malham Cove, both very photogenic.

Then there's always the 'TV tours' - have to check out what's showing overseas, but " 'Emmerdale', 'All Creatures Great & Small', 'Downton Abbey'  and 'Last of The Summer Wine' " spring to mind|??

Thinking about this aspect, is there a local minibus firm in the equation?

Just grab an OS map or two and go exploring. Perhaps there should be one of those stands at the event with leaflets of things to do like you normally see in B&B receptions.

The National Armouries in Leeds. Absolutely brilliant, and free to get in too. Demonstrations, loads of different weapons and so on. Fascinating.

Thirsty work caving - how about visiting a brewery  :beer2:

Print out one of the E chapters of Book 2 of the Caves and Karst of the Yorkshire Dales (BCRA website) then take surface walk to learn about the geology and history of one of the lesser known Yorkshire Dales (that have beaten many of the Eurospeleo "Honeypot" caving areas to publication).

Make a day of it in Settle.

On route to Settle start with a visit the Hoffemann lime kiln at Langcliffe - no booking, no addmission fee, ample parking. Just turn up and go on a mini adventure. Don't forget your torch. You could even argue that got underground.

Go and visit what is probably the smallest gallery in the world.
The Gallery on the Green. It's in a telephone box in Settle.

Something for the kiddies.

Nothing listed for August as yet, but I dare say there will be.

Maj.

Try the Orange Tree in Kirkby Lonsdale for good pub grub and local ale. The pub has strong links to the local rugby club but is also popular with some local cavers.  They also run Kirkby Lonsdale Brewery and the Monumental is highly recommended.  Apparently it is they who put the 'ale' in Lonsdale.  Cheapest beer in town and I think there is a further discount for CAMRA members.

They have special food nights which are popular with locals and visitors alike.
Monday is Fish and Chip night
Tuesday is Build a Burger night
And Wednesday is the most popular - sizzling Steak Night.
