Marton Arms reopening

Marton Arms to reopen on 30th June 2017

With new local owners and renovations in progress the Martons is due to re-open soon.

Some might suggest that the new owners have rescued a great pub with a rich caver history from the evil clutches of the corporate Enterprise Inns.  Plans are to make the pub great again, both popular with locals and a destination for visitors.  Five to eight beers are planned priced around £3.20 a pint, good pub grub at reasonable prices and accommodation for those who want to stay over.  I'll keep readers up to date on how things turn out.

Photos show the renovations in progress and new bar.

Trying to get my head round the main picture which shows the doorway and the porch.  My memory says there used to be a small square window to the right of the porch, with the gents toilets behind; on a Saturday evening after a few beers and a pizza we used to climb out through this rather than use the door which was too easy.  However, the picture shows no such window, so has it been blocked up or is the frontage shown in the pic the one facing up Kingsdale rather than the one facing toward Ingleton? Or is my memory wrong. :(

1679 that is an old building,  would be a museum in other parts of the world.  Looking forward to stopping by after caving.

Judging by the piccies the new outside loo design seems to have a rather breathtaking view for those on the throne :o
Not been to the Marton for years, must pay a visit when re-opened, will they have the whisky?

Long drop - This is the front facing Ingleton and you're right those windows used to hide the gents back then.  Different now.  I think the bottom half of the windows were boarded on the inside with only the quarter lights showing.  You probably climbed out the one which opened.

Zombie Cake - unfortunately the whiskey is long gone.  It disappeared with a succession of managers who have run the place over the last ten years.  Here is a photo of the bar from the early noughties showing just a few of the whiskies on offer.  Thanks for the picture - you know who.

Could have a hierarchy:

Yordas = Bells
Kingsdale = Famous Grouse
Bar Pot = Glenfiddich
Alum Pot = Redbull & Vodka (OK that one slipped through)
Penyghent = 15 yr old Laphroaig
Mossdale = serious finger wagging, Absinthe & straight jacket

You get the idea - any others?

You would need a straight jacket to travel all the way there from Mossdale, when there are perfectly nice pubs in Grassington.
