    An informative discussion

Recently there was long thread about the BCA. I can now post possible answers to some of the questions, such as "Why is the BCA still raising membership prices when there is a significant amount still left in its coffers?"

CRTT - No rope of Croesor 1st Pitch

And, strangely enough, this weekend a rescue callout to Croesor to assist a group that could not retreat because the rope had been removed. https://www.facebook.com/photo?fbid=834485892037217&set=pcb.834486655370474

    Aids for descending overhung ledges...?

I always found a short length of caving ladder made things like that easy. Supports or acts as a rope protector as well.

Concrete screws - smaller stainless screws tested

Not starting a flame, (although no doubt someone will!) Just a question, when you remove screws do you re-use them?

    Speleo technic FX lamps advice

Unless you want to keep the retro look, the battery cells are not worth replacing. The FX2 battery contains 2 NiCad cells which can be replaced by splitting the plastic case. The usual method of improving the Oldham was to cut off the battery and replace it with a lithium pack, usually homemade...

    Cave Rescue Procedures (continued)

One vital thing that teams are looking for is "Team" members who will do what they are told, follow instructions, and not be all "I know it all already!" Perhaps saying no driving licence was their polite way of refusing you?

    Cave Rescue Procedures (continued)

It is fascinating how many people who are not cave rescue team members know more about running a rescue team than the people who have been doing it for many years! 😆 Also the "I am an expert, the rescue team needs me."

    Wellies / rain boots advice

Muckboots, very comfortable and warm, but expensive. They are great for situations where you are not likely to damage them. (Size seems to be correct.) For "almost" indestructible, Dunlop red soles with toe caps. Long-lasting and often available cheap-ish. Rather heavy to wear and cold...

Own up then! Who did it?

Who has been digging near Abersychan? :) "Residents stunned as Welsh river turns bright orange" "Residents have been left shocked after a huge section of a Welsh river has turned bright orange. Stretches of Afon Lwyd at Charlesville near Pontypool changed from its usual grey to bright orange on...

White mold? bacteria? fungus? in compasses

That sounds rather like olive oil going cloudy in cold conditions. Is something in the liquid filling crystalizing out at lower temperatures and going away when warm?

    CRTT Updates

Which will be ironic considering that Cooks explosives used to store thousands of tons of "Bang" in there. :)

    Aditnow.co.uk

Apart from the fact that ignoring the opportunity this forum has given to people which is rather disrespectful! There is already an active forum that has a mining section for trip reports and photographs. https://www.28dayslater.co.uk/forum/mines-and-quarries.95/ 🤑 Also, as Roy has pointed out...

Croesor Rhosydd - Boat is stuck

Which says it all about a lot of the groups going in there now! Unfortunately, with the popularity I don't think that any kind of access control would last very long. I suspect that Gates would be impossible to keep in place.
