    Individual caver representative

Hey all, guess what, it's me ;):) Since it was introduced in 2016 this position has remained unfilled. The idea is to have someone on the CNCC committee to represent those who cave independent of the club structure. This is a significant number of cavers. I've no idea how many but 20%...

    North End Pot

Dear all The Space Miners, a 'chums' group of Dales diggers, would like to announce a recent extension of some 90km to North End Pot. Or another way of putting it - North End Pot has been connected to Llean Bean Aven, in the Eastern Front extensions of Large Pot. This is hot news having only...

    Belated Forum Birthday?

It appears that we might have missed a major forum birthday. I just checked when Bubba's first post was. Bubba started the forum BTW. It was 16th January 2003. Ah well. Happy birthday. There is probably a meme to go along with that ;)🎂

    Venue for a bash

We were talking about the Bull i Thorn the other day as one of the past venues for parties of all kinds. Where are the best venues these days for a bit of a do? You know the thing - a small club bash, significant birthday, wedding do etc. Thanks in advance

    Is Rift Pot rigged?

The Rift Pot below Marble Steps. It was rigged when I was last down a couple of years ago. Anyone looked at it more recently? Cheers

    Carbon offsetting for expeditions

I was thinking of the effect of the long distant flights to certain caving expedition areas abroad. Mulu, Mexico, Megahalaya to name a few. Other than not flying so far, or at all, how do you calculate your carbon use and what can you do to offset it? I've seen various companies which charge...

    Dartmoor wild camping appeal won

So Dartmoor National Park won it's appeal. The judge saying that being in a tent is 'open air recreation'. Whilst not a game changer in itself but clearly helpful to the case that 'open air recreation' includes being in a cave.

    Rope offer for summer expos

Hey all. It's been a few years since we last supported summer expos as the global pandemic seems to have got in the way. This deal is really aimed at the summer expeditions with lots of student and youth participants. The amount of rope offered will depend on how many successfully apply but...

    Yordas area question

Above Yordas there are two dams built across the stream with concrete and rebar. Looks quite old. Down either side of the Yordas enclosure there appear to be old excavations, possibly drainage channels. Can anyone shed any light of what these were for?

    Rare formations in the Dales?

How often do you see these sort of formations in the Dales. Photographed yesterday at the top of an aven in Five ways Pot.

Amazed at the service from Fenix/Inglesport

I have a Fenix HM65R, the dual beam lamp. I bought it in October 2019, used it in Mulu and have used it as my main lamp ever since. I go caving/digging twice a week, even more frequently during the pandemic years. Last December it started playing up. Flashing, coming on in the middle of the...

Joujar - deep cave in Iran

I understand Joujar was pushed to below 1000m by an Iranian team. I've done a couple of searches to find an update or even the exact depth with no luck. the info which comes up seems quite old. Anyone find some information? Cheers

    Hopeless Pot - caution

The new discovery on Leck Fell. Reports from a friend who has been down today suggest there is a dangerously loose rock half way down the entrance shaft. If it is the one i am thinking of it is part of the wall and a handy foothold to help climb up the scaffold. Apparently the rock is...

    Gaping Ghyll Expedition

During an attic sort out I have come across this little gem. It appears to be the 1927 handbook for British Association members taking part in a Yorkshire Ramblers expedition to Gaping Ghyll. It has some great text and an early survey of GG. Can anyone inform me about these sort of handbooks...

    Craven Pothole Club journals

I was having a sort out in the attic and found 22 CPC journals dating between 1951 and 1984. I'm not sure why I have so many. I know I have picked up the odd one over the years but i think most of them were given to me by a friend who moved abroad years ago. Anyway, I'm happy for them to find...

    Not cave access but...

... an opinion piece and in the Guardian I know, but it kind of makes a good point. https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2022/aug/17/england-public-trespassing-reclaim-our-countryside
