Backdoor Box Mine

Argh! I went down a few months ago via the Backdoor and had a great day. I've arranged to go down again on Friday with a mate and just came across reports here: http://www.theurbanexplorer.co.uk/box-mine/ that access has taken a turn for the worse - can anyone comment? Feel free to PM me if you'd prefer. My plan B would be to head for Jack's/Lady Hamilton's.
I phoned the Quarryman's this morning and they said the following:
They do still sell maps but do so under the badge of for interest/information, they are not encouraging people to access the mine.
They are seeing an increased presence from the MOD police, they described this as scare tactics.
As far as they know the mine is still accessible, though there are CCTV cameras at the bits where the mine becomes the MOD property (I think this has been the case for years).
I was expecting them to tell me that MOD had declared the whole thing verboetten and put it behind several layers of hoarding and barbed wire so the glory days are over but this was not the message at all. I'll report back after I've been for a look tomorrow.

I thought the military bits of Box were being sold off. So why the increase in MOD plod?

I know I'm digging up an old thread here, but did this ever escalate any further? Is Box still accessible via the Backdoor if you've got a 17mm hex? Can I still buy a survey at the pub, or if not is there anyone who could furnish me with one?

There is relatively flimsy high wooden fence around Backdoor that may well have been smashed up by now.
If you're taking freshers and have a survey it would be hassle-free to just go via Jacks.

could anyone tell me if the backdoor is accessible and if not what the fastest rout would be preferably something closer to cathedral than jacks thanks

AFAIK backdoor may be useable as long as you look and behave like proper responsible well equipped mine explorers. Ther is another grill closer to the road than backdoor BUT it leads through an area of very loose and broken workings. It is best avoided. The trip from jacks gives a quality tour of the quarry, not just the rubbish tip under cathedral shaft and its masses of mindless graffitti. The military areas are currently under surveillance and entry will bring out MoD plod for a chat...
