It pains me to write this but feel that I must
The deceased has been a close friend of mine for over 12 years and we could often be seen in the pubs around Lancaster enjoying the live bands and the karaoke bars, I introduced him to caving 6 years ago after he showed an interest in my hobby. Over the past two years has done more caving than me, he was out there most weekends and regular in the Dales on midweek evening trips
Two cavers went down Bullpot on Thursday afternoon for a leisurely srt trip to the bottom and back. At the top of the last pitch is where the accident happened which you all know about and have read on the numerous reports on the web and on the news . It was his female caving partners first time into Bullpot and both were having a great trip until the accident happened , his female caving partner having realized that there was nothing that she could do for him had the task of exiting the cave to go and get help. I can’t imagine the thoughts that she must have had while climbing out of the cave on her own and the long walk up the valley to get a signal to call for help
The deceased caver was an active member of the YSS he attended almost all club trips and always attended the club social events, he was a well liked member and always made time for others, we are all shocked about what has happened to a well loved member of the club
My thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends and my thoughts also go to his caving partner that night
I would also like to thank the CRO for all their hard work to bring him up to the surface
I have withheld the names as a sign of respect
Paul
