Many are just descriptive.

Tor Chamber ( The Tor formation )
Broken Curtain Chamber. ( Rather obviously )
Domestos Bend ( Ucky )
The Buttocks
Stal Shuffle
Fat Belly Rift ( My belly is too fat now )
Green Lake Grotto
Pisa Passage ( Leaning Tower of Pisa formation ) .
Plughole Chamber
Erratic Passage
Helectite Corner
Column Chamber also Pillar Chamber
Z Bend
The Ring Road

All from Fairy Cave Quarry.

When a large system is found pretty much all in one go ( Reservoir Hole ) there maybe a rush to get a survey done. Sometimes that happens on the same day. In those cases there is little time to come up with appropriate names. ( That's where a theme helps ). I am in favour of descriptive names. Not so keen on irony or private jokes and acronyms though its all entirely at the whim of the discoverers and there are no hard and fast rules. We only have one name at Vurley and that is M'aidez thats because that little bit got discovered on May 1st and the term Mayday has been used in a cave before.

Oh we really should have some photos -

Me struggling in Fat Belly Rift. I could walk through there once. Now it's an undignified grovel along the floor.

Pisa Passage.

Pillar Chamber.

Antler Passage around the time of discovery.

Urchin Oxbow. Not me. The sea urchin formations.

Woops. I am off again --- :ang:

What does Antler Passage look like now?

Would anyone be able to guess the origin of its name in its present condition?

It looked much like that when I visited around 5 years ago.

In Jenga Pot we were digging / diving / pumping out a horrible passage and in the pub someone sketched (on the back of a fag packet) the chamber that he guessed would lie beyond. Over a few beers we joked that it would contain a Dinosaur Penis Bone and as a result the club would be able to entice the delightful Professor Alice Roberts through the squalid passage to view it. When the sump was eventually pumped there was indeed a chamber beyond - hence the name "Dinosaur Penis Bone Chamber Chamber". Unfortunately is didn't contain a Dinosaur Penis Bone nor has Prof Roberts ever (or is ever likely to be) been enticed into it.
