Caves and Caving in the Mendip Hills :: 6th - 13th August 2016

"Caves and Caving in the Mendip Hills" is one of many separate companion "pre/post camp" events being run by local cavers and caving bodies through out the UK. The intention of these are to allow cavers attending EuroSpeleo to extend their speleo holiday and experience the rich and diverse regional caving scene available in the UK.

Nice line up of stuff for visiting delegates, such as trips to
Reservoir Hole, Charterhouse Cave, St Cuthberts, Shatter, Upper Flood Swallet
Privileged access to Wookey and Goughs Cave show caves
Redcliffe caves tour
Social - BBQs
Eurovideo/talks/MCRA/MCO
Dig visits
Dig exhibition@Wells museum
Piss up in a Brewery*

The pre/post camps are run for the benefit of Ghar Parau Foundation.

Delegates photo competition with prizes! Best 'multimedia' to be posted on the MS FB page - winner announced at the Friday BBQ

*Brewery Tour - Cheddar Ales famous Pot Holer Ale. 2 hours with tour with extensive sampling pp ?10.

Some of the events during the week are open to local cavers, especially the socials such as the BBQs :)

"Caves and Caving in the Mendip Hills" runs for the week before EuroSpeleo and is organised by a voluntary co-ordination team representing many local Mendip caving clubs. Get in contact if you would like to help us!

Some people want to :D around while others proceed at a slower pace and pay attention to cave detail and structure and peek into every crevice. A slower pace can also be very rewarding for someone with a camera.

It is planned that there will be some of the classic Mendip caves left rigged for the week so delegates (and local cavers!) can self-lead without the faff of having to carry rope in and out. Full details should be available on the opening weekend and via the event Facebook page.
