Caving article in The Spectator

I was recently asked to write a feature article about "my life as a cave diver" for The Spectator magazine, which was published this morning and can be read here: https://www.spectator.co.uk/article/the-life-of-a-cave-diver/

Unfortunately a few minor errors have crept in through the editorial process, but not of any significance to the non-caving readership for whom it was written.

While The Spectator website operates a 'pay-wall', non-subscribers should be able to access a few articles for free.

Well done - good article!

Yes, no trouble reading this, and a couple of others, without having to register or anything nasty like that.

...forty-six, forty-seven, forty-eight... (sorry, just counting the number of times the word 'fatal'appears in the text. ;-) )

Seriously Pete, a very good article.

I agree it's a good article; but maybe it would have been even better if there had been at least one photograph of some of the beautiful formations down there?

I will blame the editor there.

It's odd having someone else pull apart what you've written to meet a word count, and at least two of the three fatals were worded differently (and longer) in my original text.

I did consider sending a 'pretty' picture, but since their article style only ever includes a single picture at the start, I wanted to chose something more in keeping with the narrative. After all, our project in Otter bypasses the pretty stuff!
