Speleotron: Statistics never was my strong point, but if you have 5 choices for the first entrance and 4 for the second (or exit), then doesn't that give 20 possible through trips ? automatically including those going each way?

Yordas repeat, it doesn't make sense, but however you look at it. It must be right!

Isn't otter hole to the end quite a trip? sounds like it's in your neck of the woods.
Also aren't there some out of the way places to go in dan-yr-ogof, that make quite a trip?

You have 5 entrances so that gives you 5x4 = 20 combinations and each combination counts for 2 as I'm classing A to B as a different trip to B to A, or am I still overcounting?

If my nCr, nPr stats understanding is correct, there are 10 combinations, 20 permutations.

1-2, 2-3, 3-4, 4-5
1-3, 2-4, 3-5
1-4, 2-5
1-5
5-4
5-3, 4-3
5-2, 4-2, 3-2
5-1, 4-1, 3-1, 2-1

Which is the A to B,  then doubled for the B to A, to make 20 routes.

The NFTFH description of the Pen-y-ghent extensions is fairly entertaining; so many different ways to describe crawling...

How about the end of Otter on a between-tides trip, not a whimpy over-tides trip!  ;)

The Ogof Draenen Grand Tour

To keep this non-controversial, assume only using the original entrance.

1. Visit every major series in the system - Waterfall Series, Galeria Garimpeiros, Baron Von Carno, Saint Giles, Wyvern, Lucky Thirteen, Big Country, Dollimore's, War Of The Worlds.

2. Cover all the main trade routes, including the Round Trip passages.

3. Visit the terminal downstream chokes of each of the three major streamways.

(Optional ? may be taking things too far?)
4. Visit the points in the cave, furthest North, South, East and West. Furthest North and West are the same point, I think.

The actual route taken can vary and is down to the planning of the people involved.

What constitutes a visit to a series is up to the people doing the trip. It can't be just sticking your head trough the breakthrough point but it's obviously impossible to visit every passage. My thoughts would be that, if visiting Waterfall Series for example, then going as far as the choke at the end of Padlock Passage would be enough, no need to go all the way to the end of Bolder Land. For Dolimore's, a visit to the choke at the end of Into the Black is enough (it's the downstream end of one of the major streamways as well), unless taking in the furthest point South, then it's a LONG way to the end of Luck of the Draw.

Must all be done in a single visit. Once through the entrance, there's no going back out for something and back in again.
No set-up trips, no trips afterwards to remove gear.
EVERYTHING needed must be carried in and taken out again on the one trip and only by the team doing the trip (including all waste).
Only the people doing the trip to be involved ? no support.

Time ? 3-4 days.

I don't recall the overtide trip being hard, I just recall being bored waiting for the tide to bugger off again as we were too quick going to the end despite killing time.

That's your first caving challenge sorted then! Maybe the hardest thing you'll ever attempt.
