Is there a list anywhere of which caving huts allow camping in their gardens? I'm still somewhat reticent about dorms and being huddled in a crowded hut, but sitting around outside with an evening beer before retreating to a tent is long overdue.
Red rose, the helwith bridge Inn (very close to YSS), Behind the pub in nidderdale as long as you go in for food/drink it?s free (but ask black sheep diggers).
Cheers, I'm in the process of booking SWCC for a few days away. I should have said, I live in the Dales, so a lot of yorkshire ones are on the doorstep. It's good to know of further away options - planning to get around the uk a bit this year and have some good ideas there.
Hi Rachel, we've camped at SWCC several times, using the facilities of the 'hut' (rather an understatement for a superb establishment) with no problems at all.
Sadly due to our centre-of-the-village location in Castleton, there's no camping at the TSG itself. However, there is camping a mile down the road at Pindale Farm, run by Alan Medhurst, a long-time caver and past TSG member. If you're mention you're there for caving, you will get a conversation
not a hut, but I stayed at Philpin campsite near Chapel le Dale last year. Made it fantastically easy to access anything on the slopes of Ingleborough and was really cheap. But obviously not easy to dry kit, so definitely a summer option!
Not a caving club hut and not a caving area, but plenty of mines round about:- Garrigill Village Hall has a nice camping area at the back with access to kitchen , drying room and dining area in the hall. Take your midge repellent in summer though! Or- get yourself vaccinated and live in sociable comfort ( unless you're immunosuppressed in which case you'll just have to rough it for ever ).
