I've discovered that it's possible to get 'make your own monopoly' kits, so that rather than Mayfair, Old Kent Road etc, you can customise the board:

My club was discussing how we could do a Caving Monopoly in the pub tonight (because we're super-cool like that...). We figured Mayfair or Park Lane would have to be somewhere very pretty for example Otter Hole and Upper Flood. The train stations could be the Hunters (Mendip), the Lamb and Fox (Wales), the Cheshire Cheese (Peak) and the Marten Arms (Yorks). But we'd need replacements for the other streets and for the hotels/houses etc. Post your suggestions here!

I made a set which was played at the BCRA conference in 1988 at Manchester and featured in Descent.
"Speleopoly"
The different caving reagions featured on each of the four sides starting with Mendip - Goatchurch & Sidoct Swallet doubled as Old Kent Road etc. Then Eastwater, St Cuthbert's & Swildon's. This was followed by Derbyshire, Yorkshire and S. Wales. Mayfair and Park Lane were OFD & DYO preceeded by Craig a Ffynnon, Daren Cilau and Agen Allwedd.
The utilities were appropriately Caving Supplies and Inglesport and the train stations were the regional caving bodies - CSCC, DCA, CNCC and CCC. The Jail was "The Pub" and you could pick up a "free round" card to get out. The "Go" was home and everytime you went home you got another 48 hours caving time which could be spent discovering caves. When you controlled an area like Burrrington or Priddy then you could get a dig (c.f. house) and five digs created an extension. Other players entering caves which you controlled had to hand over the appropriate amount of caving time.
It worked best by divining the amount of ? on the exisiting Monopoly set by 4 which makes the game playable.
There was a complete set of Chance (called Pot Luck) and Community Chest (I forget what this was called) - cards. Some of which (like the "Free Round" card I remember:
e.g. "Lost in Fog - lose 5 hours caving"
"Survey your digs and extensions"
"Bank holiday weekend - an extra 5 hours caving" etc. etc.
When I have more time I'll try to remember the rest of the layout - Kingsdale and Easegill figured in the Yourkshire caves - Giants, Oxlow and Nettle Pot in Derbyshire.
The funniest thing was when we played it once, Clive Gardener ended up owning all of Llangattock.
If I was to do it again perhaps I'd replace the train stations with appropriate club huts. e.g. The Belfry, The Chapel, Greenclose and Whitewalls. Your choices of places to stay may vary - this is just for example.
