A last visit to cave supplies today and a goodbye to Phil. A few bits left if you are passing. Picked up a few things, including a signed copy of ”Caves of Mendip” (1970) well one author

Once this shop has gone not many caving gear shops will be left

Still got this 1982/83 Caving Supplies catalogue in my archive, which indicates they opened in 1972.

Caving Supplies have been suppliers of fine caving equipment to cavers and rope access technicians in the UK and worldwide since 1972.

But initially opened elsewhere as a business, before moving to Buxton, I seem to remember, from an old receipt in club records years ago.

Actually Caving Supplies first operated from a garage in North Cheam, very close to where I used to live in Worcester Park, Surrey. I can remember paying a weekend visit from Derbyshire to my Mum and Dad's house just so I could nip up the road and buy some of the new batteries they had just brought into the country. Can't recall when they moved up to the better part of England and came to Buxton, leaving behind the benighted South East.

I first dealt with Phil and Chandra in the summer of 78. I know they hadn't been there long, possibly 1976/77.

I remember visiting CS in Cheam (or North Cheam) in early 1976 for my first wetsuit, they moved north soon after. Don't recall the garage, but their spare bedroom was full of gear

I remember Mouse (EPC) working there for a while
