Dont' use your climbing rope caving!

Am I right in assuming that you use dry treated ropes and make use mainly of static ropes for rigging with dynamic cow tails. Apart from the obvious exceptions like in a lead climbing situation?

Yes (although without the dry-treated). Another difference between climbing and caving is appearance. You don't often see climbers covered in mud!

Club. They'll make sure you've got sensible gear, and will know some locations where you can have fun and challenge yourself without overdoing it or being at too much risk.

I'll second that, most clubs have a probationary period to allow newcomers to adjust.

Club caving is the best way to learn all the skills that you will need for caving , most clubs have gear that they will let you use untill you get your own gear

i too came into caving after 20+ years of climbing and like you posted on this forum for help , 10 years later im still loving it and have made friends all over the counrty not just in the club im in but with other clubs aswell

take the plunge and come to the dark side  (y)

I am an instructor but would recommend you join a club and get out there. Many of us started as climbers but the dark side beckons and you never look back.
There are many clubs to chose from but we all mix and cave with each other regardless of which club we are in i.e Wednesday evenings in the Peak we have a rag tag bunch from YSS, TSG, Orpheus & Masson meet up.

Aye but the Wednesday/Thursday night group Gollum is talking about tends to be a bit on the sketchy side! They left me in hillocks/knotlow the other night and I free climbed most the way out! :p they did teach my how to cave though!

The climbers mindset is very different to cavers mindset. Good point there. I have to place myself at the back of groups cos if I don't I run off in front on my own!

We clearly told you we would put the ropes back in when you completed the YSS application form. It was your choice to risk life and limb rather than join the YSS  ;)
