I can see us being able to dispense with the lock once the new access arrangement has proven satisfactory for the landowner.
Beth or Leon are on their way up today in the light to have a look hopefully.

Yes, Madness, it was me you met last night and four of us tried to release that lock to no avail.

Good to meet you Al.

At first I thought that I might have written the code down incorrectly, but obviously I hadn't.

Oh well, I'll get down there once the problem has been sorted.

If the new owner is not happy with it being unlocked then perhap a lid secured with a 'Derbyshire Key' would be viable?

If you want to fit an ordinary lock, I don't mind having the key at our house (in Eyam) until its sorted.

Thanks Mark but I think we'll be okay for now. Desperate to avoid a key again here.
I have been up today and the new combination lock has died an untimely death, despite not being in place for more than 2 weeks. I had my grinder with me just in case so I have chopped it off. Until we've had time to have a quick think about the replacement, there is no combination required for access. Please send a notification email in advance to the owner before visiting, details on the DCA website.

P.S. if someone has a short M8 bolt (13mm head) and a nut they want to donate then please feel free to pass it on or even better, fit it to the old padlock hole yourself to make it secure again. I had hoped to avoid the need for cavers to take anything up there, like a key or spanners, hence the combi lock.

I assume that as there's been no further posts on here that the lock has not been replaced. I'm planning to have a second attempt to get into the cave one evening this week.
