Fracking in Lancashire ??? Petition, Urgent

The only point I wish to make is that one returns home tired and knackered after a day underground we all take it for granted that we can walk in the front door and touch a switch and lights will come on, then go the the heating control and turn the heating on.
The energy for this has to come from somewhere and if anyone thinks the issue can be addressed by building more windmills they live in fairyland.

Currently this debate (nationally) is somewhat removed from actually affecting most people. If people are affected, it is negatively as the lights willl remain on.

Once the lights start going off, people will be able to make a more balanced decision, and decide what is more important to them.

I very much doubt whether fracking will contribute anything significant towards "keeping the lights on".

But I'm sure that it will put a few pennies in the pockets of a few entrepreneurs with pals in high places.

If you're worried about sustainable energy, then we need to address our usage and look at other sources of energy.

I think a sensible way to address the issue is to build more windmills

and just out of idle curiosity, where would you site them?

Lancashire is a good place for wind power. We have large areas of low value uplands close to urban areas and we have suitable offshore sites also close to urban areas.

Coal Clough wind farm is one of the oldest in the country and has long been an attraction for visitors. It is promoted as an "Environmental Attraction". So come and visit Lancashire, contribute to our economy and admire our forward looking energy provision.

By the way, slightly off topic but while we are all on about sustainable energy, the hydro people have pulled out of Cwmystwyth.
It was very unexpected and leaves CMT dependant on donations and external funding.

Just thought I would mention it.

In response to the decision by LCC to reject the planning application, the CEO of Cuadrilla said, "The country will end up relying on other people for its energy supply. ...the market is far from perfect... relying on others for your energy security is not a good place to be".

The CEO of Cuadrilla (the foreign CEO of a foreign company) has got that entirely the wrong way round; by allowing fracking by Cuadrilla, and if that fracking did amount to an energy supply, the country would end up relying on 'other people' (his words not mine) for its energy supply."

Two things I think about, considering I have done A LOT of research;

1; The science behind Fracking has not yet been fully analysed, effects on the holistic environment are not yet clear, in some instances I compare it to Thalidamide.

2; Before the advent of the steam engine the industrial revolution was driven by the gravity effect on water.

We have two consistent water streams dropping 400ft on our land, yet there is no help from national park, local or county experts available to help us with 'Micro-Hydro-Electric' as it has been termed. There is plenty of help with Wind and Solar, -- Listed Building, National Park, ---need I say more??

Minor seismic events arent a valid reason to oppose hydraulic fracturing techniques as these occur naturally and frequently -Lancashire has a long history of coal minnig and small events were common with long wall mining as the faces collapsed - this fracking is to some extent a financial scam as the volume of gas trapped in uk shales ia 5% of that found in US formations -all wells drilled in Europe to date (including the UK have been dry ) !
