We are all a bit slack when it comes to straying off topic.

And where is the harm in that? The board is really more akin to chatting in the pub, or over dinner, than it is to a formal debating society.

I think that having a seed bank in Kew and having this future proof one in Spitzbergen is good.
What about tsunamis

If or when a tsunami swamps Europe, presumably the seas will go back to their normal level.
Anyone Left would then be able to ask Spitzbergen for some seeds,
hey presto they could eat.
But where would they get their cider from :-\

Well, there are times when it isn't a nice thing to do, though probably not a big bother on this thread. I haven't time to explain my thoughts now, but I will try to come back and do so later, in a new thread.

Depends... if its a casual discussion its a pub chat if its about a location, documenting something its very annoying to suddenly be talk about something totally different.  Oooops I am off topic.

Any view on my thing about adding seeds every 5 or 10 years?

Actually it's a good argument for as many countries as possible to do this - not having all eggs in one basket.
This would encourage diversity as provide options for swapping seeds to give a better genetic spread.

Although I was thinking of more mundane disasters such as fires, earthquakes, localised floods.
I don't imagine the Norwegians have located it at sea-level with all those mountains to choose from!

I first heard about this project years ago but just came across this article,
so construction is actually going to start next year, brilliant.

Oops, mistake.
It should have started construction last month :-[
