Not been on here for ages but thought i should post something as I was a little shocked when I arrived at Giants yesterday morning..
I was there all day Saturday as was another local instructor and everything was ok so at some stage Sunday into Bank holiday monday the amount of litter left in the car park was crazy , i cleared half a black bin bag including loads of co op food wrappers pasta dishes etc and discarded clothing..

it didnt end there as once in upper west passage i picked up about seven or eight biscuit or choccy bar wrappers just dropped on the floor. Ive never seen it that bad and would suggest it all had to be the same culprits?

If anyone sees this kind of behaviour I would suggest it needs to be carefully and discreetly challenged?

anyhows dispite that we had a good trip.... :) cheers jon

That's pretty shocking. However props to you Jon, we were there last night and it was looking as it should. Well done for the hard work.

I'm pretty sure it was 'Dr Bart' from this forum who picked up a load of litter there only a month or so back. It does seem to be getting a bit more frequent. Hopefully just a blip. Keep it up Jon, you're giving the pro's a good name!

Cheers Duncan guessing it's you from that profile , I love that picture it's quality 😄

That's thanks to Pete taking a Flash Gun into the Three Counties System.

I want to change my name, but both Duncan and Duncan S are taken. :(

I was in there on the 22nd of March taking a novice round the Upper Series and taking a look into the Steam Room.

There were at least 4 other groups in there during our visit.

- One group of 13-15 year old teenage lads (seemingly lead by someone, didn't get a proper look).

- A young couple, who were not dressed for it really - both had thin down jackets, running headtorches and no helmets - they just went to Base Camp chamber and left.

- A group of loud people who I think were a stag-do; mainly blokes I'd pin at around 25-30.

- And a couple of cavers I recognise from DCRO (sorry I don't know your names guys!).

The cave was clean before we went in and didn't get a look at it afterwards as our novice was getting cold and tired. Due to the timing of your visit it could have been one or both of the large groups I saw that were responsible but I don't want to point the finger as I have no proof - they could have been as zero-impact as we were for all I know.

Sadly I think that the prominence of Giant's Hole as a beginner cave and its use in groups of beginners (or "one-timers"), it will always be a battle keeping it clean.
