Guidelines for seeking access to dig on forestry land...

I'm investigating a potential project within the local forestry commission land.

I've searched the BCA and BCRA website however cannot find any guidelines on how to proceed with negotiating access to dig out the entrance to a shaft.

Any ideas/help/arguments to present would be greatly appreciated!!

AFAIAA you will have to negotiate with your local FC office. In the Forest of Dean we have an agreed access arrangement with our local office, but unfortunately not all FC offices are as welcoming to cavers as ours is.

Will let you know what comes of it, was hoping to unearth some guidelines or support from the BCA given that we have insurance through them but have failed to find any info on the BCA website...

Have you tried contacting Elsie Little (BCA C&A Officer).
I think (could be wrong) that BCA's C&A Committee were trying to negotiate with the FC to get a general UK wide access policy in place similar to the one they have with the National Trust.
Whilst not an access agreement in itself it provides blanket policy and guidance within the National Trust (which is very regionalised) to give a national set of rules and guidance for access.
I think the FC is similar in its regionalisation and differing access policies and the intention was to achieve something similar.

As I said, I could be wrong. I might have imagined the whole thing. I don't think so though.  ;)

Evening,

I've had an enquiery regarding access to FC mine sites in Mid Wales sat on the Land Agent's desk for over 4 years by now!  o_O I found the local staff (right up to management level) very friendly and enthusiastic, but once it gets passed on up things become a little slow! As far as I can gather, the Land Agent is responsible for alleviating any percieved risk to FC from any activities on/in their estate and don't like the idea of unknowns poking around in holes!

My advice would be to go and have a chat with the local manager, and see if you can come to some sort of aggreement that doesn't neccessitate calling the Land Agent. However, if you have any success with a more officila approach, lpease let me know, because I've resigned to never getting an answer by now and have taken to speaking to farmers, who seem a lot more accommodating regarding access.
