Years ago caving near the Berger, (jean noir?) Both my petzl jammers failed at the same time around 3/4 up the big pitch. I dropped around a meter thinking the dodgy bolts had failed. I stopped and quickly tied a knot in the rope and clipped in a cow's tail. Gingerly removing my hand jammer it was totally caked up with sticky mud. After cleaning them all was ok. Needless to say I was happy to get off the top of that pitch. 😲

If you do a Kingsdale through trip and arrive at the Valley Entrance pitch to find that there's no rope, and you can't free-climb the pitch, there is another possibility – throw a rope over the bridge, tie it down on one side (there are some nice threads on the upstream side) and prusik up the other side. OK, there's a bit of rope rub and getting off the top might be a bit awkward, but I know it can be done because I've done it.

We recently found the rope pulled/tangled up near the top (presumably by a careless final member of the previous party?). Aid climbing up using the P-bolts isn't too difficult either; but like you say you probably have your pullthrough rope so can sling it over the bridge.
